Mental and Emotional Disorder

MENTAL DISORDER
It is a disturbance of the total personality of the individual of the personality of the individual which adversely affects his adjustment to himself and his environment. When people mature and pass from, one style of life to another, he sometimes encounters problems that may lead to frustrations and stress. If an individual cannot handle stress there will be a personality disturbance that may lead to mental disorder.

Psychosis

Major serious forms of mental illness, whose behavior are unpredictable and the person lives in a world of his own detached from reality.

2 Kinds of Mental Disorders
1. Organic Psychosis (physiogenic)- occurs due to brain cell damage like paresis which is caused by advance syphilis or alcoholic psychosis which is poisoning, due to alcohol.
Types:
a. General paresis / syphilis
b. Toxins – Alcoholic Psychosis
c. Head injuries
d. Old age
Examples:
Meningitis, celebralpalsy, brain tumor, encephalitis, arteriosclerosis, epilepsy hydrocephalus, neurosyphilis, etc..

2. Functional Psychosis (psychogenic)- malfunction exist within the individual, has no observable tissue damage and is believed to result from years of living under emotional stress.
Types:
a. Schizophrenia
b. Manic-Depression
c. Cerebral Arteriosclerosis
d. Sinile Psychosis
e. Conduct Disorder

Emotional Disorder
It is the disturbance of feelings about or reaction to certain important events or thoughts. It occurs when people experienced unpleasant emotions. He may feel anger, grief, pain and sadness

Kinds of Emotional Disorder

A. Personality Aberrations
It is a process of personality disorganization, where one's behavior sets him off as different from other people. One example is delinquency it is an act which violates acceptable moral and social standards and bring the individual into conflict with society. Vandalism causing damage to personal property, disobedience, vagrancy, parental defiance, against persons of authority, gambling accompanied by petty robbery, thrill-seeking, forms of gate crashing, extortion and other sadistic acts, and act of lasciviousness to include crimes against chastity.
B. Psychosomatic Disorder ( Psycho physiological Reactions)
It is a disorder pertaining to relationship of bodily symptoms which arise on the basis of psychological factors. It is the result of prolonged intense emotional stress which disrupts the normal functioning of some organ systems. It takes place in an individual when there is an inadequate release of tension. This includes chronic fatigue, aches and pain and digestive disorder.
C. Neurosis
It is a disorder of behavior due to emotional tension resulting from frustrations, conflict depression or marked insecurity. It is a partial separation from reality marked by eccentric behavior. This disorder resulted as frustrations, conflicts or marked insecurity.
